A Note from Pastor Jenn-July 9, 2020

Dear St. Lukers,

We come to a close with our sermon series on Developing your Core Strength based on our Core Values. I want to publicly share my appreciation and gratitude for our staff who have stepped up in powerful ways during this series and shown they not only affirm the core values of our organization but live these core values in their every day lives as St. Lukers. They have been powerful witnesses to how the intentional work of building these muscles of Christcentered love, acceptance, hospitality, community, discipleship and service changes the way we live and move and have our being in this world at this time. On Sunday we finish this sermon series as we see how these muscles give us the strength and force to be in Service to the world around us and we have some beautiful new music our congregation has been working on to show us what it means to “draw the circle wide” as we share how our core values have come to life in you!

Next week we’ll be sending out a video update from St. Luke’s Campus Reopening Task Force. We continue to be in prayer for all those struggling with the virus and have been contacted by many in our congregation who are healing from COVID-19. We also recognize the economy, the racial inequity resistance, reopening schools and business, and the growing emotional weariness is overwhelming. We pray as a congregation for all who are leading and working in extraordinary positions of public service. To our healthcare workers, teachers, law enforcement and our community leaders, boards, public servants who are facing unprecedented leadership decisions, seeking new ways to serve and live by creating new fair, safe paths forward for our residents, we pray for your wisdom, discernment, and courage. In the book of Joshua, the Lord calls young Joshua to a new command, but promises that Joshua doesn’t lead alone. Hear these words from The Message: In the same way I was with Moses, I’ll be with you. I won’t give up on you; I won’t leave you. Strength! Courage!  Haven’t I commanded you? Strength! Courage! Don’t be timid; don’t get discouraged. God, your God, is with you every step you take.”

Finally, we recognize that some of the stimulus for unemployment will begin to end in the coming weeks. We have received generous gifts to our COVID Assistance Fund and want to be able to help you and your families in this time. Please click here if you find yourself in one of those liminal, in between moments and let your church support you.

Grace and peace as we move through this together, not as our own persons, but as St. Lukers who exercise the core muscles of Christ-centered love in action,

Jenn.
