The Hills are alive…. With the sounds of … The end of summer!!

Which means music, theater, special worship services, back-to-school support, and FALL KICKOFF!

That’s right—even though the temperatures are still in triple digits and the US Olympic teams are still raking in the medals, it’s time for those traditional end-of-summer events here at St. Luke’s!
Come on—keep reading, and get your calendars and phones out to set your dates and make your reservations—you won’t want to miss a moment!

SUMMER SHOW OPENS TONIGHT: Our summer musical, The Sound of Music opens! This team of more than 150 has taken this familiar story and created a way for us to see our 2024 selves in the characters and themes of this beloved show. We are telling this story because it is a story of the power of love and courage as resistance against hate and violence. Get your tickets here – and with most of the main roles double cast – you can come twice to see these amazing performers!

GUEST PREACHER JIM HARNISH THIS SUNDAY: St. Luke’s founding pastor, Rev. Jim Harnish, will preach both services and connect Mary, the mother of Jesus, with Maria Von Trapp. We will be selling his new book Surprised by Mary between services, and at 11:00, you will want to join him in the Youth Center for a discussion and book signing!

BACK-TO-SCHOOL DONATION DRIVE FOR MAXEY AND MOLLIE RAE ELEMENTARY: Be a part of helping students get a great start to school as we supply toiletries and new shoes to our partner schools. Click here for the list to purchase on your own or find the Amazon link to send directly to the church.

CENTRAL FLORIDA PLEDGE AT THE SOUND OF MUSIC THURSDAY, AUGUST 8: August 8 is Central Florida Pledge Night at The Sound of Music. We are so excited to partner with the Central Florida Pledge to help us all find Maria and Captain Von Trapp’s bravery in standing against hate and standing up for our neighbors with the musical sounds of love.  We will be joined by leaders of Orlando and an incredibly special guest who lived through the horror of WW2.  The Holocaust Center will have museum artifacts of the propaganda of othering used to divide the country to incite WWII. After the show, we will host a special talk-back session with Rev. Joel Hunter and others from The Pledge and cast to discuss this important story. Get your tickets and download the new app, Pledge Central, to sign the pledge, find resources, and get up-to-date news.

FALL KICKOFF COMBINED SERVICE AND FAIR SUNDAY, AUGUST 11 at 10 AM: We will kick off a fall of learning, living, loving, and leading our lives as we commit to get ROOTED in PURPOSE and AWAKEN to this wild and precious life. Remember those Friday afternoon pep rallies before the big game? Join us as we gather for ONE service to get IN THE SPIRIT with all our ministries, followed by a ministry fair for you to learn more and commit to an awesome fall!

FREE PASTA DINNER AND SMALL GROUPS KICK OFF WEDNESDAY AUGUST 14
Register to join us for food, fellowship, and learning as we kick off the semester of studies for children, youth, and adults. Head here for dinner reservations and to choose one of the class offerings led by each of the clergy. Each class is related to our ROOTED in Purpose series.

See, I told you we were ending summer with a bang! Let’s gear up for a fantastic fall at St. Luke’s – where St. Luke’s is really NOT the same without U!

Jenn.
