When I was a senior in high school, my solo for state contest was the beautiful alto solo from Handel’s Messiah “He shall feed his flock.” It is to this day, one of my favorite songs. The text comes from the image throughout scriptures and is referenced in our scripture from the prophet Micah for this coming Sunday. And he shall stand and feed his flock in the strength of the Lord, in the majesty of the name of the Lord his God. (Micah 5:2-5) The prophet looks to the future Messiah who will come as a shepherd to look over and care for his flock, doing whatever is necessary to care in the strength and power of God, to care for and raise his people.
